About Moyako Backgammon
Moyako Backgammon is the classic 24-point board game for two,
played against an AI opponent whose risk tolerance and running style
scale across four tiers — Beginner (plays safe, easy to beat),
Casual, Skilled and Expert (runs fast, punishes exposed blots).
Each game lasts 4 to 12 minutes. Bear off all fifteen of your
checkers before the AI does and the win feeds your daily streak +
leaderboard rank.
How to Play
- Pick a difficulty tier and press Start Backgammon. You move your checkers from point 24 toward your home board (points 1–6).
- Tap Roll at the start of your turn. You get two dice; doubles grant four moves at that value.
- Tap a checker to see highlighted legal destinations. Tap a highlight to move. Stacks of two or more block the opponent from landing.
- Hit a single opposing checker (a blot) to send it to the bar. The opponent must re-enter from their starting side before making any other move.
- Once all your checkers reach your home board, start bearing off. First side to bear off all fifteen wins.
Skills Used
- Probabilistic Thinking — weighing dice-roll odds before committing a move.
- Strategic Planning — balancing the running game (race) against the back game (trap and hit).
- Risk Management — deciding when a blot is acceptable and when it's a disaster waiting to happen.
- Pattern Recognition — reading board structure to pick the right opening response to each doubles roll.
Tips for Better Play
- Build your home board early. Points 4, 5 and 6 are the most valuable real estate on the board.
- Don't leave single blots within direct dice range of a hostile checker — count 1–12 from every opponent position before committing.
- In the race phase, move the furthest-back checker first. Every pip behind is a pip in danger.
- On doubles, slow down. The best move is rarely to spread all four pips evenly.
FAQ
Is Moyako Backgammon free? Yes. All four tiers, daily streak and leaderboard are free.
Does the AI cheat on dice? No. Rolls come from a seeded RNG logged per-game — you can inspect the roll history after any match.
Is the doubling cube available? Not in single-player tiers yet. Friend-play via invite supports it.
What variants are supported? Standard western rules today. Tavla and Nackgammon variants are on the roadmap.
